Take-Back Programs |
- Apple, for about $30,
will provide a prepaid shipping label for its recycling
program. Also, Apple will send you packing materials for
a nominal fee.
- Dell, for about $15,
will pick up your computer (from any manufacture) and take
it to its recycling department.
- Gateway will give
customers the option of trading in his/her old equipment
when purchasing new Gateway equipment, depending on the
condition of the trade-in.
- HP for $13-$34 per item,
HP will take back both your computer (from any manufacturer)
and HP printers.
- IBM for about $30, IBM
will provide a prepaid shipping label to send yor computer
(from any manufacturer) to Envirocycle, a large electronics
recycling center catering to businesses.

| Government Recycling
Efforts |
- The
Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has facilitated
several events which have resulted in 9 permanent events.
They have collected over 2,700 tons of electronic waste.
The Virginia DEQ utilizes funding from the EPA and electronics
companies.

| Private Recycling
Efforts |
- Computer Recycling Initiative(CRI) contracts with a private
recycling firm, which specializes in the extraction
and recycling of heavy metals found in electronics. CRI
organizes at least one event every semester in cooperation
with Virginia schools. Nominal drop-off
fees are associated with some electronics.
